A slight change in location for the annual Fourth of July holiday fireworks show at Atwood Lake should expand and improve the view for visitors.
The point of ignition for the show, scheduled July 4 (Monday) at dark, has been moved on the grounds of Atwood Lake Resort and Conference Center to just west of the resort’s golf course, near the former resort air strip. The change will permit an improved viewing area to the west of the resort, including clearer views from inside Atwood Lake Park and near the dam at the lake.
As in previous years, the annual show also will be visible from numerous areas on and around the lake. Traffic will be maintained along Rt. 542 near Atwood Lake Resort and parking bans will be enforced in certain areas.
And while the fireworks show is the traditional cap to another exciting Fourth of July holiday weekend at the lake, numerous other events also are planned at Atwood Lake Park.
Activities get under way July 1 (Friday) with a softball game at 6 p.m. at the park field. On July 2 (Saturday), a kids’ carnival behind the park Activity Center will feature plenty of fun games and prizes, with tickets only 25 cents apiece. The band Ultimate Groove, a classic and modern rock band, will hit the stage at 8 p.m.
Events July 3 (Sunday) include a campground golf scramble at 7 a.m. at Atwood Lake Resort’s course, followed by a kiddie fishing tournament at 1 p.m. Adult bingo and a kiddie fun night being at 7 p.m. On July 4 (Monday), water balloon games are planned at 3 p.m. with the band Kody Stormn’ playing at the beach 6:30 p.m.
Overnight camping is available in the park and the park’s swimming beach will be open all weekend.
