Muskingum College professor to lead MWCD Board in 2006

A Muskingum College administrator and professor has been selected to lead the Board of Directors of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District in 2006.

Dr. Steve Kokovich was elected president of the Board of Directors during a meeting today (Dec. 16) held at Atwood Lake Resort and Conference Center. Thomas L. Tribbie, a Cambridge attorney, will serve as the Board’s vice president.

Kokovich was appointed to the Board of Directors in 2003 by the MWCD Conservancy Court and served as the Board’s vice president in 2005. An administrator and member of the education department faculty at Muskingum College, he is a member of and has served as president of New Concord Village Council.

A member of the board of directors for the John and Annie Glenn Historical Site at New Concord, Kokovich also has been active in development of a system of walking trails and a community lake for the village, and is involved in the area’s National Road historical and tourism effort. He is a graduate of Muskingum College, Ohio State University and Ohio University.

Tribbie is a partner in the Cambridge law firm of Tribbie, Scott, Plummer and Padden, and was appointed to the MWCD Board of Directors in 2004. Associated with the law firm since 1952, Tribbie served as the prosecuting attorney in Guernsey County from 1960-68, and previously served as the president of the board of trustees of the Southeastern Ohio Regional Medical Center, chief executive officer of Valley of Cambridge Scottish Rite Masons and on the board of directors of the National City Bank.

A graduate of Cambridge High School, he earned his bachelor’s and law degrees from Ohio State University.

According to Ohio law, members of the MWCD Board of Directors are appointed by the judges of the Conservancy Court to oversee the operations and business affairs of the Conservancy District. Established in 1933 to provide flood reduction and water conservation benefits for residents of the Muskingum River Watershed, the MWCD manages 54,000 acres of land and water space dedicated to public use in an 18-county region in eastern Ohio.

Board members also approved a tentative schedule of meetings for 2006. Meetings normally are held on the third Friday of the month beginning at 9 a.m. Meetings for 2006 are planned Jan. 20 (in New Philadelphia City Council chambers), Feb. 17, March 17, April 21, May 19, July 21, Aug. 18, Sept. 22, Oct. 20, Nov. 17 and Dec. 15.
